The e-Messaging Server is a Windows network server software product designed to integrate with your in-house business applications and email systems. The e-Messaging Server provides document messaging (including fax delivery and receipt), document conversion, document archiving, text messaging, and other message or document routing services.

The e-Messaging Server is a highly flexible product capable of being configured for a single function role (e.g. just a fax or text messaging server), or a true multifunction role. Similarly the e-Messaging Server can be configured as a single server, or the software can be clustered over a number of servers to provide system resilience and additional throughput.

The e-Messaging Server is currently used by major commercial organisations, banks, and government departments.

Administration

All administration is carried out through a single Interface which uses Microsoft Management Console technology. This is the same whether it is a single server installation, or where the e-Messaging Server software is installed and duplicated over several servers.

Automatic system monitoring, restart management and alarm reporting is included with the e-Messaging Server administration. Routine tasks, such as regular importing of directory information, or reporting of traffic statistics, are automatically handled by a Task Scheduler service.

Resilience

Additional e-Messaging Servers may be added to create an e-Messaging Server cluster in order to provide resilience and ensure continuity of service.

To ensure that messages and documents are processed in the event that one of the e-Messaging Servers fails, connectors on two e-Messaging Servers can be paired together. One connector will work as normal, capturing messages whilst the other connector will monitor the ‘worker’ for errors. In the event of consistent errors, or the ‘worker’ connector going off-line, the ‘monitor’ connector will take over.

Example Configurations

Because of the system flexibility, the e-Messaging Server can be configured for many different roles. The following are just examples. These examples can be single function, or they can be combined with each other:

Fax Server

The e-Messaging Server can be configured as a fax server, having one or more fax messaging gateways to allow faxes to be sent to/from e-mail clients, network scanners and business applications. Messages and attached files are converted to fax format and sent over fax lines connected directly to the gateway, or via IP technology. The fax gateway can also handle incoming faxes and send them to internal mailboxes or printers, and can interact with business applications and databases.

Text Messaging Server

The e-Messaging Server can be configured as a text messaging server, having one or more text messaging gateways to allow mobile phone text messages to be sent to/from e-mail clients, web browsers and business applications. The text messaging gateway can also handle incoming text messages sent to internal mailboxes, and can interact with business applications and databases.

Network scanner server

The e-Messaging Server can provide central connection and routing facilities for communities of network scanners. The server adds value and functionality to network scanners by providing direct connection to databases, document archives, OCR services, e-mail and fax servers. There is no limit to the number of scanners that can be supported by one e-Messaging Server. During the routing process any required document conversion and document recognition can be carried out.

Central OCR server

An e-Messaging Server can be configured as a central OCR server for a network of scanners, e-mail clients and business applications. The e-Messaging Server carries out all OCR processing. No OCR software is installed or run, other than within the e-Messaging Server, and no other computers or applications in the network need be aware of the OCR process. The powerful ABBYY FineReader OCR engine is incorporated into the e-Messaging Server.
